The Writer Mama Speaks!
February 1, 2008 by andreamcmann
If you haven’t heard of Christina Katz and her book, Writer Mama, please check out my previous post, Worth Its Weight in Gold.
Christina graciously took time out of her busy schedule to answer some questions for a new weekly feature here at Writing From Kiddom. Each Friday, I am going to feature an interview with an author about his or her favorite books. There is only one catch: it can’t be a book he or she has written.I recently asked Christina Katz, author of Writer Mama about her favorite parenting books. Here’s what she had to say:
“My favorite parenting book is actually a classic series of parenting books by Louise Bates Ames. I run to get the next one at the library just before my daughter hits that birthdate. In fact, I have the next one, Your Six Year Old: Loving and Defiant on my library list.
And boy, is that title right on the money, which explains why I rely on these short, descriptive volumes to help me understand where the heck my daughter is coming from every time she rounds a milestone.
These are the best parenting books ever because the parents gain new understanding and insight by reading the book, without the interference of lots of heavy-handed advice on how to manage your child.”
Christina also provided me with the names of all the books in this series:
Your One Year Old: Fun-loving and Fussy
Your Two Year Old: Terrible and Tender
Your Three Year Old: Friend or Enemy
Your Four Year Old: Wild and Wonderful
Your Five Year Old: Sunny and Serene
Your Six Year Old: Loving and Defiant
Your Seven Year Old: Life in a Minor Key
Your Eight Year Old: Lively and Outgoing
Your Nine Year Old: Thoughtful and Mysterious
Your Ten to Fourteen Year Old
I hadn’t heard of this series before, but since they are so heartily recommended by the
Writer Mama herself, I’m going to check them out A.S.A.P. You should, too!
What’s your favorite parenting book?

Wow. Thanks for doing the interview, Andrea. I plan to run to the library for my eight year old. So far lively and outgoing does describe him.
